Program Design conference call
Sat, 2/13/10

To Do:

On call: Adrienne, walda {program and culture}, mallory {ICT}, stephanie {people's movement assemblies}, dan {PMA}, fred {PMA}, jerome {program and culture}, oya {culture, DLOC}, rose {gender justice working group}, louis {international}, will {DLOC, healing}, sylvia {nat'l coordinator}, maureen, leslie {program & culture}

The goals of this call are:
- To understand all the work the Program Design Team is responsible for [what all is entailed in crafting the 5 days - self-organized workshops, work brigades, culture, plenaries, DEX, dloc programming, and more!]
- To understand the current state of Program Design - which pieces are set, and which pieces are still being determined?
- To understand who all needs to be a part of that work, and whether they are on the call yet.
- To understand how often we need to meet to have clarity and unity in our Program!

:overall mesh with logistics - [logistics working group - oya]

:opening ceremony/march - [oya and tapeka have discussed - having it in cobo hall with a large hall and overflow space; in logistics have had program convos included culture and political focus on detroit; also come discussion in anchor mtng about whether to kick off in afternoon or later like 3:30-4 and going into evening]
with march 5pm going down Woodward...tapeka is working on getting the permits to start a west grand blvd.
we should also check in with indigenous community on what they envision for this.

:Who is ultimately responsible? What 2 or 3 people are holding it?

:It seems like the logistics staff (Maureen and Tapeka) are holding it. They with DLOC. are identifying team leaders to handle different aspects of the work locally. The next step is to connecting folk nationally to join the teams. The link reflects the 20+ teams that we are working on. The logistic calls will tackle the list one at a time. That is part of the ongoing work. See the wiki working group reports. Before the next time we talk if someone will step up to meeting with Maureen and Tapeka. Oya will meet with Maureen and Tapeka and to follow through on the opening march and ceremony.

: So to answer the question of Will there be an opening march? --> Yes, there will be an opening march.

:questions moving forward: what will people do once they are directed to cobo after the march (14000 seat arena)?

:self-organized workshops - [Program Working Group - walda + kiran]

:work projects [done during the forum in conjunction with the community] ***these are different from work brigades [done leading up to the forum]...there's a committee in Detroit to work on this, having a national call on brigades/projects at the end of the month. diana is the contact {will can also relay info} [see additional notes below] NEED- transportation system and communication with individuals and organizations that register for USSF

:culture - Oya. events at hart plaza, sharing space with vendors. 2 stages with programming. cultural submission forms will go up soon. also a (visual) art gallery downstairs cobo hall, murals and graffiti art, upstairs we hope to have a children's art village. also working with DEX.

:plenaries - Adrienne. sending out a proposal on monday for NPC to consider on wednesday.

:Detroit Expanded - DEX - mallory. so far its on workshop submission forms, there are ppl interested in the idea, folks are checking it. also a proposal placed in other detroit based grants. going forward just need to work closely with p+C so that we book rooms correctly, and a group of volunteers who can support and have rooms close to media center to help organize that. in brazil a lot of ppl expressed interest but it didnt come thru, but workshop ideas will evolve based on what we can offer.

:additional local detroit programming - oya. boggs center and hush house is talking about doing projects out in detroit - folks will go and stay there and work before and during the forum, and doing community projects. there are ideas out there by individual organizations, but we havent had that discussion yet. including activities outside the main social forum activities. {mallory - some of the stuff that's unofficial is the most exciting}

:actions - coordinating the local and nationally planned direct actions over the course of the forum. Adrienne is interested...

some other questions and thoughts that are coming up...

:what's happening after work hours, on saturday - for people in detroit?
:list is looking a lot like logistics list, so how will it line up with the logistics work? with OC meeting coming up...
:the next logistics nat'l call sun, 2/14 at 5pm est. topics: hotes and solidarity housing (http://wiki.ussf2010.org/wiki/OC_working_group_reports_2-8-10)
:need to recruit more logistics folks

:Work projects (Will)

- We are having a national phone call at the end of the month.
- What is the reason for separating the work projects from the work brigades? --> They were separated to create optimum participation. Work Brigades will happen before the social forum. We are still examining our capacity to faciliate the brigades. Brigades are leading up to, projects are during with local groups.
- thinking right now is to focus the work brigades on the 3 middle days of the forum. are working on figuring out transportation.

dloc programming aspect: haven't had collaborative convo yet esp outside of main SF territory

maureen: wants to get out front and have communicative convo on what we're all trying to do. some are having independent convo and decisions on what they're planning to do.

should be understood that some of the "anti-" actions and convos that people want to have are sometimes not what Detroit needs. Need to have a national conversation about this

:international participation
we need to be clear on our perspective--where is the room for the convos? don't need experts telling us or saving us, but the focus is on working together. Get educational and practical info to share. how make USSF more global-centric with counterparts around the world?

what's character of Day 3? as we focus on int'l, the int'l is also us: empire. how integrate int'l participants into detroit beyond SF? how integrate into PMA process? we've got good relations with venezuelans--they have interest in having ambassador on a plenary (ran alba bank but comes from a gov't position). solidarity groups can help but some connections not necessarily thru them.

plenaries are specific and there is a plenary team for that, needs to go to npc as a political expression and will of npc. already got a non-npc, non-dloc proposal for a plenary.

have online form that captures info for those willing to work with int'l organizations goal: to get more int'l participation especially in workshop planning and submission

side note: we're building FAQs page on wiki to put on website:
http://wiki.ussf2010.org/wiki/FAQs_for_website

:children's social forum
Angi Smith has stepped up to take responsibility, planning is at preliminary stage. They are communicating with 2007 CSF and making plans. Request support to mention CSF online so that people know that CSF is happening. Maureen will put Mallory (ICT) in touch with CSF co-chairs. There is a link that mentions CSF on the web (logistical considerations TBA). Need to check to see if it needs more visibility

:people's movement assemblies [wednesday-saturday]
1:30-5:30 Wed through Friday block for PMA
How to announce different assemblies taking place
People can bring declarations from their communities
PMA is a part of the process from opening
Wednesday Day 1. Listening to Detroit (economic crisis)
Thursday Day 2. Discussion
Friday Day 3. Resolutions
SaturdayDay 4. Actions (calls to action-- gulf coast) beyond the forum and (maybe) during the forum
Conversation TBA about integrating with plenaries
Groups of 4 or more organizations encouraged to bring in resolutions; Detroit has not had full conversation about what actions we would like to see at USSF, thsee conversations will be planned before hand; Detroit PMA March 13 will be a space "what actions do we want to see happen and what are we going to do to help make that happen"
Program and Culture working group has a huge question for PMA process - will there be a form and is PMA developing that?
--> through conversations, PMA had looked at forms and thought we were on them. it was on a call for them but there was no submission form. tweaking the submission form would be easiest for tech and translation. submission process might be harder to coordinate given thatthe assembly process is new, so we're ok to be contact folks. where this will get tricky is on printed program. there were some strong examples in atl which weren't as publicized after - queer left forum is great example. this goes with web presence - should do something that says PMA contact. there's a web page with the PMA and organizing kit [mallory and steph worked on] just need it more highlighted. currently people are contacting walda.

:canopies [was tents]: the word tent is no longer in our vocabulary, a tent needs certain kinds of permits. but a canopy - nobody cares. we have canopies and by monday/tuesday will have a list of the different options, the capacity [chairs and tables]. right now found abotu $4000 for 5 days of canopies = abotu 150 canopies. we're negotiating with the canopy companies. Canopies will have sides that can be lifted or lowered.
organizations must secure canopies with their own monies, USSF will secure generators
Gender Justice 2007 "red tent"
Do you have to go thru Program process to have a workshop anywhere, e.g. canopy, elsewhere? No, only if you're registering thru Program to be listed in the program. You do whatever you want in your canopy. How do people register for a canopy? Last time was rushed a no criteria other than you had to run it and pay for it. Anchors will discuss this Tues.

:public (open) spaces
we have more than 271 meeting rooms, Monday or Tuesday we'll be around 300; space for Self-organized activities-- 14/15 spaces at hotels and churches (will be 20 by Monday) 40-50 people up to 200; Outdoor spaces- TBA; no programming 8-9:30, people could possibly use meeting rooms during this time; Need to be signed up for

:Workshop Schedule
10-12
1-3
3:30-5:30

:healing space
medical group can help with injuries, seizures, etc. there are some asking to participate who have "interesting" ways to offer healing. trying to sort out who's leading and who's participating:
1) medical emergency care
2) healing space -- still being determined- desire to have "Red Tent" as part of healing space
3) water
4) comfort station -- where people can rest, mothers can nurse; still being sorted out...all at a very early stage.

In US we have 33 graduates of Havana medical school, many in Haiti now. Anyone willing to ask if they can serve in Detroit? They could serve and talk about their experience.

Red canopy was inside Health & Healing tent in ATL.

:tours
there will be tours: labor, environmental--maureen says waiting for anchors to make formal request to oc and npc. idea that tours will begin tuesday before opening march.
If opening march not starting until evening, we will need to talk about programming
Anchors working on proposal for Tuesday programming

:closing ceremony
we have access to Cobo Arena for opening and closing events (14000 seats).

What will be occuring on Saturday? How does USSF relate to working local people (evenings and weekend) ?
Could there be a workshop bloc on Saturday?
People who work in Detroit during the weekdays asking what will be avail for them on Sat to participate? workshops?
PMA could have interactive workshops, assemblies, caucuses

Use assembly and call to action as the closing ceremony for actions that weekend or later?

also integrating culture into both. including cultural activities in evenings during week? yes and during plenaries.

opening could be where we see who's from where--sit with your region and groups. perhaps also show people what they brought or are offering to detroit.
closing: what will we do together because we came together.

perhaps 10-12am on saturday more workshops (esp for detroitters) and visions, ideas, resolutions, if couldn't participate on other days); plus time for people to caucus for pma discussions.

: Youth space
maureen: fear of kids falling in river so activities will be set up away from water. waynce co communiity college is a few blks away from cobo--have large asphalt parking lots, one large enough for canopy to hold 150 people, plus electricity, tables, chairs. they can use college bathrooms (no showers) til 8:30 nightly. how put youth in hotels who don't want to sleep outside. they can also sleep at central united methodist church where ussf office is. we don't know what youth wg is preparing on content.

:youth wg is figuring out how to get to detroit--having calls every othr week with up to 60 youth organizers.--steph will share info with them. local veterans foundation willing to loan cots. youth will need shower areas. forums have had showers and camping in the past

:More FYI:
couchsurfing network is reaching detroit, seems to be alive and well. have made good arrangements with hotels, all the info on the website will not cover all that's actually available because poor and low-income folks won't know till late when/if they can come. so know that approx 100 rooms will be set aside for that.

how does this group continue on? these are important convos. program has been trying to meet with logistics. continue to meet separately and together.

this should be ongoing...how do we make sure we integrate all the diff parts together so goals of SF are met?

canopy, performance, workshops, pma--what do the spaces look like so we can match up with programming. that needs to be a call--total survey of all the space.

:on tues, 2/16, the printed program group will be meeting (time?)

adrienne will determine how to do follow up on these notes, future meetings and identify where the ansers need to come from (e.g., npc, dloc, etc)

==What is the OC==
'''The Organizing Committee is the central coordinating and decision making body for USSF planning.'''

The Organizing Committee (OC) represents the Working Groups, Detroit Local Organizing Committee (DLOC) at-large members and anchors, and brings together national and local representatives and staff. The OC will inform and make decisions around the body of work for planning and organizing the USSF. The OC also drafts proposals and makes recommendations to the NPC at its face-to-face meetings and monthly calls.

The main task of the OC is to ensure coordination between and amongst the working groups and national and local organizing. The OC ensures that the NPC and DLOC get regular updates about working group decisions, processes, and needs. This body troubleshoots gaps or breakdowns in the process and helps resolves problems by making recommendations to the NPC. The OC evaluates the overall work plan and timeline, and ensures the USSF is meeting its goals and keeping on task. The OC also helps track overall political cohesion of the USSF and helps identify political conversations/contradictions that the NPC should be discussing.

Representatives to the Organizing Committee must be willing to undertake these higher level responsibilities and be accountable for their work to other members. They should also perform them in a manner consistent with USSF principles.

* All national and local '''USSF staff''' (6)—one vote each for national and local staff;
* One representative each from the '''International Solidarity Committee''' (Jen) and '''Personnel Committee''' (Diana)(2).

Each working group will identify one alternate representative that will substitute for the main representative when he/she in unable to participate in meetings or temporarily does not have access to communication tools. The alternate rep may also participate in face-to-face OC meetings. The Organizing Committee meets by conference call on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at 1pm EST, in person one day before the quarterly NPC face-to-face meetings, and communicates via email between meetings.

==What is the OC==

Focus on:
International Council WSF - relationship btwn USSF to overal WSF. No 2010 WSF. As many as 29 local Social Forums leading up to 2011 WSF (will take place in Senegal). Convos about howt o connect all these forums. Two bodies working to figure out conenctions. Straategy commission - social movement geroups and NGOS. Series of 4 ?s - what do we see as existing political context. responsiblities for these movements. alts being discussed. connections to WSF.
Looking for groups interested to be involved in this process.
2nd body is 2010 cmte - focus on how each fourm connects throughout course of the year. Banner unveiled in Brazil to be used at forums throughout the year. Are we interested in having this banner in Detroit? Would involved in person exchange. Reccomendation - team from NPC (if NPC feels this is good direction to go) proposes our level of engagement. Also to determine - do we want to bring organizers form these different forums here to meet with us/talk about forums in their areas and how it connects to US?
Jen - some of this work is already being done in the Int'l Solidarity Team, so taking this on would be more just continuing work already in progress.
Cool.
If folks want to participate, could either mean joining the ISC or create a sub group, can get in touch via ISC chairs.

No opposed or stand asides!

Endorsers Language:

Endorser Organizations Job Description:
USSF endorser organizations or individuals are important allies in helping to build a strong grassroots movement and convergence in Detroit. Endorsers shows solidarity with the values and process of the US Social Forum and are instrumental in helping to mobilize their members and networks to the Forum. Unlike National Planning Committee organizations, endorsers are encouraged but not obligated to make financial or official work contributions to the USSF. Endorsers provide a critical role in lending their organizational or individual reputation and name toward USSF organizing and building, and will be listed on the website. The USSF has available information and contact support to help endorsers with their grassroots fundraising efforts (http://www.ussf2010.org/feedtheroots) to attend the Forum! For more information, please contact adrienne@ussf2010.org.

Endorsers Pledge:
As a USSF endorser organization or individual, we/I pledge to support the USSF in one or more of the following ways:
- Register early (by May 1, 2010 at latest).
- Make a financial contribution to the USSF.
- Identify and share in-kind donations that can be made to the USSF. [share link/form from Sha]
- Promote the USSF in our/my outreach materials and other communications media.
- Add a USSF badge or link on our/my website or online social networking tools (get them at USSF badges and graphics)
- Recruit additional endorsers from our/my community and networks.

Endorsers Process:
- Organization or Individual downloads/views the Endorser Job description and pledge, as well as the 'What We Believe' statement and the 2010 USSF Goals [I've been sending these to folks who ask about NPC membership as well and it seems to help.]
- They fill in their information for the pledge, including a link to their website.
- AMB checks that the organization/individual is legit, and then updates the Endorser page of the website weekly with new names and links.

==================

12:15 Plenaries Proposal (see below) - Sarita Gupta

Plenaries Proposal to the National Planning Committee USSF 2010 February 10, 2010
This is a proposal drafted by the plenaries team which includes: Walda Katz-Fishman, Rosalinda Guillen, Emily Kawano, Andrew Dalack , Oya Amakisi, Noura Erakat, Tammy Bang Luu, Bineshi Albert, Adrienne Maree Brown, and Sarita Gupta.

After careful conversation and consideration of the input of the National Planning Committee, we respectfully submit the following proposal.

Three Evening Plenaries We are proposing three evening plenaries, 3 hours per evening, with a variety of formats to increase participation. We propose that the plenaries align with each day’s theme: One focused on Detroit One focused on national and international movements and solutions One focused on alternatives and solutions

Each plenary will incorporate cross-cutting issues {For example, what are environmental solutions to economic crisis?} We will also strive to make the plenaries transformational, uplifting the intersectional work that will advance what folks are doing. We will need to develop big framing questions that ensure that we get these intersections.

Different Formats For the Different Plenaries We have brainstormed various formats and are advocating that we use a different format for each plenary. A panel of speakers followed by a World Café format for discussion and input, where everyone gets to have some conversation at their table or location, and that information is filtered to the large group. A fishbowl format with multiple identified speakers that takes place centrally and then moves into smaller fishbowls with audience in separate rooms. A panel of speakers with the use of technology for discussion to get comments and questions, and suggestions in real time. For example, this could be useful for the third plenary on alternatives and solutions. One plenary in which international allies are streamed in via Detroit Expanded. We are open to other format ideas as this process moves forward.

As a carry-over from the 2007 USSF, we propose prioritizing speakers who are grassroots leaders versus large names, and can speak to their work and solutions.

Next Steps: If this proposal or components of the proposal are approved by the NPC, we are proposing that there be an ongoing plenaries TEAM to work on this, with current members able to continue and other active NPC organizations eligible to join.

In ALB, talk about spaces created together. It was agreed to form a team to take info from ALB and bring proposal back to this call.

This is being brought forth as a proposal for feedback and then will be reworked to reflect feedback.

3 3-hour evening plenaries - align with each days focus/themes
Day 1: Detroit
Day 2: National/International movements/solutions
day 3: Alts/Solutions

Uplift intersectional work that people are already doing

Each has a different format to increase participation
Three ideas for format
World cafe
Fishbowl format
Panel

Prioritize grassroots speakers

Looking for approval from NPC and folks who want to join the team to move this forward.

Questions:
Other folks wanted to be included in the team.

In proposal 3 plenaries - wondering what is thinking behind focusing specifically on Detroit as opposed to:
Nation (including Detroit)
Intl
Alts/Solutions

Responses:
- goal is to show how we are all interconnected/converging. very important that Detroit is a specific focus because USSF is there and was decided to be held there for certain reasons.
- Also to align with themes of days for the program

* Day Two: Connecting Detroit and the U.S.
* Day Three: Connecting U.S. and International Social Movements
* Day Four: Solutions, Alternatives, and Vision: Confronting and Combating Neo-liberalism

Questions: Timing? Looks like 6.30-9.30ish.

Note - let's be mindful of last face to face convo re: balance btwn broad issues and spreading ourselves too thin. there may be people who don't fully agree with only three plenaries. if npc approves after the final vote, we should be ready to defend it.

Question: Is there proposal of various formats fitting better with specific themes?
Response: We didn't get into those specifics. Did imagine, but felt it would be gotten back to after approval from NPC.

Note: Be mindful of the constraints of having them be participatory. The real requirements of having 10,000 people in one room.

Will team create language around why we are choosing to go with way?
Yes!

Call to vote:
No opposition, no stand asides.
Plennary team will move forward!

Any NPCer that wants to join team call email Sarita by Friday

===================

NPC/OC Meeting

Recommendation is to:

:* Go forward with the OC meeting with main and alternate reps present (if possible)
:* Invite key NPC members who are chairing priority areas of work that we would benefit from their historical knowledge or current thinking on the issue i.e. Sarita and Walda on the Plenaries, Louis on the International front to name a few. Once the prioritization of political conversations is done, the facilitation team can determine those other NPC members who should be invited.
:* Like any meeting, it is open to other NPC members and regional allies that want to come but will be at their expense, and the staff will not take responsibility for arranging logistics for them.
:* Increase the number/length of phone calls for the NPC from now until June, 1rst and 3rd Wednesday at 12pm PST/3pm EST.
:* Create an agenda to deal with 2 main focuses: Logistics and NPC organized Program (opening and closing, plenaries, PMA and the inter-relation of the it all)
:* We create a facilitation team that does not have logistical responsibilities and within the agenda we build space for breaks, non-structured time to allow for discussions and relationship building.
:* Prioritize the areas of political discussion and debate. Create proposals to help advance those discussion and decisions.
:* Create feedback loop from the NPC and working groups on their input on political direction. Start on Feb. 17 NPC call, create the tool/process for feedback, have final feedback on March 17 NPC call.
:* And if in the OC meeting, there are questions beyond our capacity, like we have always done, we go to the NPC for that input and decision.

Here is the list of political conversations: (not limited to these)

:* Programmatic themes to discuss and more importantly land: content, flow, methodology, speakers, culture, etc in the opening ceremony, the evening plenaries, PMA's and the closing ceremony.
:* What is next post-USSF? What is the vision of continuing the social forum process: local, thematic, USSF3, North American Social Forum, PMA's, Days of Actions, WSF-Dakar, etc.?
:* What are we as a whole (NPC, DLOC) trying to really accomplish not just logistically but politically? How do we actualize the goals for USSF 2010 that we set out for ourselves?
:* What does it mean to expand the NPC and what is the future of this body?
:* Are we going to meet our goal of 20,000 people in Detroit? What is it going to take to meet that goal?
:* What is our commitment to internationalize the USSF? Will there be an NPC sponsored Global Action in joint struggle with our International allies?
:* What needs can we really fulfill: access to the disability community, other languages, childcare, etc. All of those needs are not just a logistical consideration, it is a political discussion to create common understanding and then measure it to our actual capacity and resources to do it and be clear about our ability at this point meet those needs responsibly?
:* How do we update our “What We Believe” statement to reflect our current organizing principles?
:* How do we answer the questions the International Council has asked all social forums to answer: What is the analysis of the current situation? What is the analysis of the state of social movements? What is the state of resistance? What are the alternative projects that are being built? What are the strategies of the process of the WSF?
:* What is our orientation and plan for security issues relating to right wing forces and backlash at the USSF, homeland security, INS, etc?
:* Any others?

5 goals for the USSF 2010

:Create a space for social movement convergence and strategic discussion
:Advance a social movements agenda for action and transformation
:Build stronger relationships and collaboration between movements
:Deepen our commitment to international solidarity and common struggle
:Strengthen local capacity to improve social conditions, organizing and movement building in Detroit

-------------

Can PMA provide a cohesion on ABQ discussions: state of movement and resistance?
Where are we with the 5 goals?

3 requests:
a) increase amount of calls to 1st and 3rd wed to 3pm est?
b) create survey to get broader feedback and consultation? evaluation & documentation committee will help. get a level of debate and dialogue going.
c)

Support? Yes, no opposition, abstentions
So next npc call is 3/3

:team 1: where are we at on 5 goals
:team 2: post-USSF II
:team 3: state of resistance, PMA

:Steph-PMA: PMA can help stay on those questions (team 3).

Financial update:
Finance Team working from 2007 numbers and add'l budget considerations for a core cost functional budget based on cash flow. Please see email Steph sent out. Send back questions and concerns to her. Want a clear and open process, please send feedback, add'l flags and needs. Ask that WGs sync up with each other. Staff also allocated funds for travel needs, plus $1500 for working groups.

Adrienne: we will start sending out twice monthly highlights to NPC to keep everyone informed and excited!

- AMB checks that the organization/individual is legit, and then updates the Endorser page of the website weekly with new names and links.
==================

===================

===================

NPC/OC Meeting

Recommendation is to:

* Go forward with the OC meeting with main and alternate reps present (if possible)
* Invite key NPC members who are chairing priority areas of work that we would benefit from their historical knowledge or current thinking on the issue i.e. Sarita and Walda on the Plenaries, Louis on the International front to name a few. Once the prioritization of political conversations is done, the facilitation team can determine those other NPC members who should be invited.
* Like any meeting, it is open to other NPC members and regional allies that want to come but will be at their expense, and the staff will not take responsibility for arranging logistics for them.
* Increase the number/length of phone calls for the NPC from now until June, 1rst and 3rd Wednesday at 12pm PST/3pm EST.
* Create an agenda to deal with 2 main focuses: Logistics and NPC organized Program (opening and closing, plenaries, PMA and the inter-relation of the it all)
* We create a facilitation team that does not have logistical responsibilities and within the agenda we build space for breaks, non-structured time to allow for discussions and relationship building.
* Prioritize the areas of political discussion and debate. Create proposals to help advance those discussion and decisions.
* Create feedback loop from the NPC and working groups on their input on political direction. Start on Feb. 17 NPC call, create the tool/process for feedback, have final feedback on March 17 NPC call.
* And if in the OC meeting, there are questions beyond our capacity, like we have always done, we go to the NPC for that input and decision.

Here is the list of political conversations: (not limited to these)

* Programmatic themes to discuss and more importantly land: content, flow, methodology, speakers, culture, etc in the opening ceremony, the evening plenaries, PMA's and the closing ceremony.
* What is next post-USSF? What is the vision of continuing the social forum process: local, thematic, USSF3, North American Social Forum, PMA's, Days of Actions, WSF-Dakar, etc.?
* What are we as a whole (NPC, DLOC) trying to really accomplish not just logistically but politically? How do we actualize the goals for USSF 2010 that we set out for ourselves?
* What does it mean to expand the NPC and what is the future of this body?
* Are we going to meet our goal of 20,000 people in Detroit? What is it going to take to meet that goal?
* What is our commitment to internationalize the USSF? Will there be an NPC sponsored Global Action in joint struggle with our International allies?
* What needs can we really fulfill: access to the disability community, other languages, childcare, etc. All of those needs are not just a logistical consideration, it is a political discussion to create common understanding and then measure it to our actual capacity and resources to do it and be clear about our ability at this point meet those needs responsibly?
* How do we update our “What We Believe” statement to reflect our current organizing principles?
* How do we answer the questions the International Council has asked all social forums to answer: What is the analysis of the current situation? What is the analysis of the state of social movements? What is the state of resistance? What are the alternative projects that are being built? What are the strategies of the process of the WSF?
* What is our orientation and plan for security issues relating to right wing forces and backlash at the USSF, homeland security, INS, etc?
* Any others?

5 goals for the USSF 2010

Create a space for social movement convergence and strategic discussion

Advance a social movements agenda for action and transformation

Build stronger relationships and collaboration between movements

Deepen our commitment to international solidarity and common struggle

Strengthen local capacity to improve social conditions, organizing and movement building in Detroit

Written report sent out yesterday am. Was in brazil two weeks ago for 10 anniv activities for original WSF site. City celebration with their own Social Forum 27,000 overall turnout for local celebration. International seminar to talk about what has taken place over the last 10 years world wide
Cool.
