Participants: Reg, Sylvia, Karlos, Scott

Next meeting; Friday, November 6th, noon EST, 11am, CST, 10am MST, 9 am PST.

Sylvia's agenda recommendations: These are Detroit based, Sylvia will email comments separately from this call. a) AMP and DJC

Scheduled the AM conference for the week before the forum. AMP is interested in helping us do some of this work. They have a huge media list and can bring hardware, etc. Reg: have them on a conference call? Karlos: fundraising oppourtunity--hardware needs? Can't just be for the Forum--build progressive infrastructure. Sylvia: AMP have been calling Detroit orgs to see what they need--build capacity. Collaboration between AMP/COMM/ICT/DLOC

b) ICT/Mark L trip to Detroit c) DLOC tech/communications committee? d) Detroit/SE MI media strategy?

1. Report back from NPC

2. OC rep and alternate? Reg (interim) and Karlos (alt), Karlos is looking for others

3. Finalize comment on the logos and poster. Reg will forward our comments to Nadia, including Cindy's feedback about prson in a wheelchair and someone more fuller figured. We also recommend moving the mother-child to the center. Sylvia will work with Outreach on text for back of cards. Sylvia recommends using Nadia's printer for first round of printing then a Michigan printer. Printing should include posters, cards, stickers (just logo). Possibly add a national email on the website or maybe add to a later print run. Reg suggests we can also create a text number to text the USSF--we can also use this as an organizing tool. Timeline: ask Nadia to make updates and then we'll send final version to NPC this week, then send materials to printer 11/11, make sure printer can return to us by end of Nov for upcoming events (including Seattle WTO Anniv on Nov 28-29).

4. Review Scott's input on the ICT committee (website, registration, database). http://ict.ussf2010.org/wiki/agenda-ict-20091029 http://wiki.ussf2010.org/wiki/USSF_Projects Registration soft rollout Dec 15. Use ticket system for website change requests (ticket link is on wiki). ICT is proposing work based on "projects" to break down the work. Comm WG may also want to look at this idea so people can work on smaller projects or tasks rather than participate in bigger Comm WG work; this can better help us complete the Comm WG plan.

5. Discuss plans for distribution of the consulta. Reg-Available next week--need a press release to the media, and does this need to be part of a kit? Karlos-Come up with process for coming up with press releases from WGs. Sylvia--maybe come up with a template.

Karlos: a) Press kit for media with basic press release and other info on website b) Organize media kit for people--give people autonomy and power to just go out and do the work, and build leadership. Templates can help give people direction. Karlos will send out template he has--Comm Media 101 toolkit from CMJ.

Sylvia: Do a comm/media training around templates for press releases. What working groups would need to do this? Reg: By early Dec we'll pull together a kit and figure out training for later, maybe at January face-to-face mtg.

Reg: First week of december finish up the kit.

6. Discuss a very soon meeting of the entire COMM WG based on the updated Comm-media list (updating list with 2007 participants).

We're up to 35 names. Survey of who can do what and want to do? Using consulta, what can they help with for this one project. Sylvia: Documentary project--getting videos up on you-tube; maybe a detroit video.

Contacts in CiViCRM: foundations, media justice, media/comm; start project for thinking about the database, what to include

7. Discuss work plan and upcoming tasks

Report back from NPC: reg highlights Comm contribution/particiaption

Outcomes: redesign the logo, could not represent the u.s.

ICT wants one person from ITC, Comms and Outreach to be a point person.

OC rep--who is it going to be? Need to have one by the next OC conf call, the rep will be a bottom-liner for the Comm WG. Need to be on the calls and face to face meetings at the NPCs.

Logo: Scot likes A, Cindy? thought to include entire bodies, wheelchair and more diversity; Sylvia agrees, ; convey to Nadia/DAC that we like B2, but include wheelchair maybe also someone holding a sign, include on poster (also move fist guy to the side and move mother to the center)? Hopefully done this week. Reg will get comments back to Nadia--something by Monday; put it up on Comms list as final version this week-FINALIZE! Have someone in Berkeley (printer) first round, MI printer for next round.

People need postcards and posters--by end of Nov. Work with outreach for text with cards. Postcards #?, stickers, posters.

Post on wiki the graphic files.
