JENNIFER: flyer

  • thanked team of folks. Working on organization outreach & collecting events currently happening (workshops/formal gatherings/informal gatherings). Please check the googledoc (https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Am7dgWt0XJEqdDFjWE5HMTVEYnktbS1HVzhFMWMyM1E&hl=en) to make sure your organization & its events are listed. Also, make sure that other folks you know will be attending are also listed on the googledoc with their events. Wants to send it out in a couple of weeks before USSF. Someone needs to design the hard copy flyer. Jennifer asks if there's a printer to use.Stacy & Marcia confirm there's no budget with printing and that'd take additional fundraising. Does anyone have access to a printer? Quarter/half/full sheets? Use texting for primary? What events? Do we have volunteers to hadn out flyers? Want to make sure we have enough copies for folks. Asks people to 1. Look at Google Docs and 2. Facebook Page (http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=325568768133&ref=ts&v=info) Weekly USSF blasts until USSF - distribute widely!
  • Linh: Do we want color/black & white? Local copy printer/Kinko's? Jennifer: Flexible on color/black & white on color paper Willing to help.

STACY: PMA

  • Organizing tool that Social Forum folks designed to take tools back home from the forum. Basic gathering & commit to action
  • Conceptualize common themes to take action around & move forward
  • Marcia: Friday discussion at church 4pm-6pm at the garden. Saturday morning split half of the room with the Detroit Engineering Project. The room has a 144 person capacity.
  • Stacy: Questions? Concerns?
  • Stephanie: Youth call PMA same day. Make sure to not conflict. Answer: All PMAs are on the same day.
  • Someone asked (sorry didn't catch a name): What to expect/intentions of PMA? action plan? broader visioning? Answer: both - we can design it as we want - propose issues we're engaged in, follow-up work, leave it open. Concretely, we need to fill out a form for an APIA PMA.
  • RJ: Good idea but complicated. APIA is not homogenous. Answer: 2 or 3 issues we think are important versus next steps with smaller groups. Open but no obligations
  • Marcia: We want to add orgs from different regions,. While we got logistics here in Detroit, we need different regions to design what it will look like.
  • Stacy: Next steps? Facilitators? Help plan?

VOLUNTEERS: Marcia, Stacy, Lisa, RJ & Rob. E-mail the list if you're interested it's not closed and more folks would be helpful.

  • Rob: At Atlanta in 2007, Domestic Workers Alliance formerly formed. Are there hot issues like the Detroit PMA's raising up the restaurant opportunities center campaign? Ideas? What's pressing right now collectively? San Francisco participated in the National Day of Action on May 29th against SB1070 - something specific to take action around in the coming year.

STACY: Media/Documentation

  • Marcia: Another piece we've been thinking about is documentation of where we've been, where we are and where we're going as an educational tool to get out of USSF. Are there ideas of what that would look like? It's good to know there's media out lets like APEX Express on this call right now. What other different media outlets are there? Could we have live streaming during our PMA on Friday from 4pm-6pm to broadcast where we've been, where we are and where we're going? Feedback? Take on different pieces?
  • Sincere Justice: How long? Who Wants to take it on? Answer: It's open. There's been little development yet.
  • Marcia: Are there media outlets to send/be a part of? Videographers? Photographers?
  • Rob: NY with small film crew will be there. Renee from APEX will be at USSF & AMC for KPFA. Exhchange media already at USSF.
  • Marcia - There's extra space at the youth tent - ask Marcia if interested.

e-mail May 24 Hi!

Hope everyone is well. Looking forward to folks coming through in less than ONE MONTH! We wanted to talk one last time before the USSF to touch base.

A couple of things for now:

1. Is there anyone (or do you know of anyone) that would be interested in creating some sort of educational piece using film/stills/etc. (& shooting film, taking photos, audio etc at USSF) to document the APIA movement at the USSF? The Detroit folks were talking and we thought it would be dope to use the USSF as a way to see the past, live in the present, and envision the future. If you are interested, send me an email (marciaylee@gmail.com) and we can talk.
2. Get the word out on your APIA event!

The Asian Pacific Islander American USSF collaborative wants to help you get the word out on your APIA organization and event at the USSF. Please send your APIA organization name, contact information and event details to Jennifer (jennifer.r.jaramillo@gmail.com) by Tuesday, June 1. Events may include both formal workshops and non-workshop gatherings such as: cultural events, films, social networking, community-based and informal gatherings.
