Oya Amakisi and Will Copeland met briefly after the USSF Local meeting. The National and Cultural Committee will participate in a phone conference on Wednesday, April 29, 2009. We discussed putting a call out to artists for a meeting on Thursday, May 14, 2009 (details provided below) after the conference call.
Oya and Will brainstormed more names at the USSF LOC meeting. These include:
- Soh Suzuki, visual artist
- Bec from justseeds.com visual artist
- Khary Kimani Turner, journalist and poet
- Jeff Nzoma, of the African community
- Ilana Invincible, hip hop artist
- Mama Aneb & Aurora Harris, poets (We should reach out the Broadside Press)
Later Will came up with the ideas of:
- Diana Nucera, film maker & Detroit Summer
- Kahn Davidson, journalist and poet
- Gayelynn McKinney, percussionist
- Aku Kadogo, Wayne State drama professor
- Julie Rosier, playwright
Will will talk to Harlan Bivens about involving the Better Detroit youth movement and their "Live in Peace" and "art parties"
