Author of the bestseller LIES MY TEACHER TOLD ME and, relevant to Detroit and to USSF generally, SUNDOWN TOWNS. Many towns, suburbs, and even entire counties drove out or kept out African Americans, beginning mostly 1890-1940. Some did the same to Jews, Chinese Americans in the West, Native Americans near reservations, etc. To THIS DAY residents in some towns and counties still make it inadvisable for African Americans to live in them. This is an outrage and the most blatant form of racism still extant in the U.S.
